REBECCA MURPHY

Rebecca is a highly experienced and versatile director, facilitator, and actor based in Meanjin/Brisbane. She has been a longtime Core Ensemble member of the Queensland Shakespeare Ensemble (QSE) and is the ensemble’s General Manager.

Her performance credits with QSE include Lady Macbeth in Macbeth and Macbeth in the Dark, Nurse in Romeo & Juliet, Poins in Henry IV Part I, Gravedigger in Hamlet, Paulina in The Winter’s Tale, Mary in Mary Stuart, Tamora in Titus, Ariel in The Tempest, Oliva and Maria in Twelfth Night, Helena in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and Julia in The Two Gentlemen of Verona. As a member of the Core Ensemble Rebecca has had the opportunity to be involved in the development and readings of new works, including The Tragedy of Socrates by Silvan Rus, The Blood Votes by Michael Futcher, and The Centre by Jo Loth and Ginna Brock.

Other credits include Tales of Rain with Niz Jabour and La Boite Theatre Company, Who’s Afraid of Virginia WoolfLovePukeThe White Whore and the Bit PlayerRomeo and Juliet for Tropic Sun Theatre (NQ), and Mullah Nasrudin (as stage manager) for Full Throttle Theatre Company/La Boite Indie.

As a director, Rebecca has helmed productions such as The Penelopiad, The Rover, Henry IV Part I, Rosencrantz & Guildenstern are Dead, and Shakespeare’s Shorts. She has also served as an assistant director on productions like The Winter’s Tale, Twelfth Night, and Titus. Recently, she completed a directorial observation on Queensland Theatre’s production of The Holidays.

An in-demand facilitator and tutor Rebecca has had the pleasure of working with companies and programs including Queensland Shakespeare Ensemble, Shakespeare Prison Project, University of Queensland, NIDA Open, Brisbane Drama Studio, Tropical Arts, Underground Productions and ABCN (Australian Business and Community Network).
