MIKALA CRAWLEY
2024 marks Mikala’s first year as a member of the Core Ensemble. Mikala has been with the Queensland Shakespeare Ensemble since 2021 where she completed the Apprenticeship program. She then went on to become a portfolio manger for Marketing/Events starting in 2022, and in 2023 completed the new Advanced Apprenticeship program.
An avid appreciator of Shakespeare, Mikala has performed some of his works including The Tempest (2016), As You Like It (2018) and Henry IV Part 1 (2019) with New Farm Nash Theatre, As You Like It (2021) with Thunderbear Productions, Much Ado About Nothing (2022) with St. Luke’s Theatre Society and Macbeth (2022) as her mainstage debut with the Queensland Shakespeare Ensemble. She has also directed/produced a staged reading of The Two Noble Kinsmen for the 2022 Anywhere Theatre Festival.
Mikala’s other theatre credits include Medea (2018) with Underground Productions and The University of Queensland’s Classics and Ancient History Society, Game of Tiaras (2018) with Re-Act Theatre Group, (Strathclyde University’s theatre society in Glasgow, Scotland where she completed a semester of university exchange), and The Penelopiad (2023) with the Queensland Shakespeare Ensemble. She has also dabbled with musical theatre in a few productions with Brisbane Arts Theatre and Sandgate Theatre Inc.
Other than working onstage, Mikala has also worked backstage with QSE as deputy stage manager for their production of Romeo and Juliet (2021) and assistant stage manager for their production of The Rover (2022).
Mikala acknowledges the traditional custodians of the land on which she lives, works, and plays – the Turrbal and Jagera people, and pays her respects to their Elders, past and present. She acknowledges that sovereignty was never ceded.
