REBECCA MURPHY
Rebecca is an experienced director, actor, and facilitator based in Meanjin/Brisbane. A longtime Core Ensemble member of the Queensland Shakespeare Ensemble (QSE), she is also the ensemble’s General Manager.
As a director, Rebecca has helmed productions of Tartuffe, The Penelopiad (Matilda Award nominations for Best Ensemble and Best Actor in a Lead Role), The Rover, Henry IV, Part I, Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead, Shakespeare’s Shorts, Shakespeare Pick & (re)Mix, and the world premiere of Bogga. She has also worked as an assistant director on The Winter’s Tale, Twelfth Night, and Titus and completed a directorial observation on Queensland Theatre’s The Holidays.
Her QSE performance credits include Cassius in Julius Caesar (Matilda Award nomination – Best Actor in a Supporting Role, Independent), Lady Macbeth in Macbeth and Macbeth in the Dark, Nurse in Romeo & Juliet, Gravedigger in Hamlet, Paulina in The Winter’s Tale, Mary in Mary Stuart, Tamora in Titus, Ariel in The Tempest, Olivia and Maria in Twelfth Night, Helena in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and Julia in The Two Gentlemen of Verona. She has also been part of the development of new works, including The Tragedy of Socrates, The Blood Votes, and The Centre.
Beyond QSE, Rebecca’s credits include A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Tales of Rain (La Boite Theatre Company), Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf, LovePuke, The White Whore and the Bit Player, and Romeo and Juliet (Tropic Sun Theatre). She also worked as a stage manager on Mullah Nasrudin (Full Throttle Theatre Company/La Boite Indie).
An in-demand facilitator and tutor, Rebecca has worked with QSE, the Shakespeare Prison Project, the University of Queensland, NIDA Open, Brisbane Drama Studio, Tropical Arts, Underground Productions, and ABCN.
